Service Description
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help people process and heal from traumatic or distressing experiences. It is recommended by organisations including the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for the treatment of trauma and PTSD, and can also be effective for a range of other difficulties where past experiences continue to affect the present. Sometimes, overwhelming experiences can become "stuck" in the brain, leaving you feeling as though the event is still affecting your emotions, thoughts, body, or relationships. EMDR helps the brain reprocess these memories so they become less distressing and no longer have the same emotional impact. EMDR can be helpful for childhood trauma, abuse, accidents, assault, bereavement, anxiety, phobias, panic, low self-esteem, and other experiences that continue to influence your daily life. I use handheld pulsators to provide the bilateral stimulation during EMDR sessions. These gentle, alternating vibrations move from one hand to the other and many clients find them calming and comfortable. Bilateral stimulation supports the brain's natural processing while you remain fully awake, present, and in control throughout the session. EMDR is much more than simply revisiting difficult memories. We begin by building trust, understanding your experiences, and developing coping strategies to ensure you feel safe and prepared before any memory processing takes place. Therapy always moves at a pace that feels right for you, and you are never expected to share more than you feel comfortable with. Every EMDR journey is unique. My role is to provide a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment where healing can take place, helping you move forward with greater confidence, resilience, and freedom from the weight of past experiences.
